Pacific Rim: Uprising

Rating: 4/10 (Sub Par)
Recommendation: Redbox It

I saw the first movie just a couple of years back and I thought it was alright. It was extremely cliche but fun to watch. But a sequel? I wasn’t too keen on that. And I was proven right.

The movie doesn’t mess around. It knows you’re here for the fights. John Boyega is a decent lead and the acting is campy but fun. And the third act almost makes for everything the first two acts failed to deliver…almost.

The film barely sets up any scenes. The plot is virtually non existent. The dialogue is cheesy. Most of the characters don’t matter. Anything that’s explained is explained poorly or doesn’t seem to matter. The movie takes no time to breathe and just clashes scenes together like they ran out of time in the editing room. And, honestly, things just seem to happen to happen with no rhyme or reason.

If you’re going into this film expecting something maybe more mature than the first movie, then you’re seriously going to be disappointed. Uprising is meant to be fun and stupid but there’s only so much fun and stupid you can handle before you’re like “Okay. Let’s just get to the fighting already.”

If you’ve seen the first one, and liked it, this will probably be an okay waste of a 2 hours for you. But if you didn’t see, or care, for the first film, then there’s nothing here that will change your mind. If anything, it will probably turn you off the franchise even more.
